hikidashi guro chawan

hikidashi guro is an ancient japanese type of ceramic,
similar to raku, but older and done at
a much higher firing temperature.
the common aspect is that the pieces are
pulled from the kiln with tongs
and cool to room temperature within a few minutes.
the pots are taken out at 1200-1220°C
(hikidasu = pulling out)
which causes the glaze to develop its characteristic colour
(kuro = black).
I use a stoneware clay from the Czech republic
and a glaze made from iron ore and wood ash
