copper glaze chawan

a chawan (teabowl for powdered green tea) that has
been fired on its side, supported by sea shells to hold
it in place and prevent the glaze from sticking to the
kiln shelf. the glaze on this piece is a copper-coloured
Oribe, but the clay I used is not the traditional white
stoneware but a pure white porcelain body.
due to the unusual firing position the pot has distorted
into an oval, shoe-shaped form and the glaze has run
to one side, creating a cast of the shell-supports
