onggi teapot with maplewood handle
h 13cm without handlethe lugs of this new teapot design are shaped like dormers
and hold the maplewood handle that has been joined
directly onto the piece by a master cabinetmaker.
there are no nails or screws involved, only joinery.
the body of the pot is wheel-thrown and untrimmed,
yet very lightweight.
its curves stand in contrast with the angular shape
of the handle, but the combination is an interesting
match, as well as a very practical one.
the glaze on the teapot is a korean onggi glaze, as explained
in the following piece.
the dormer-lugs have in turn inspired another shape,
the "black turtle vase" as seen under "stoneware/vases"
